You type several thousand words a day. Your keyboard matters more than most of your other gear.

These are the boards I'd actually recommend — no gamer RGB nonsense, just switches and build quality that hold up over years of use.

## Keychron Q2 Pro (75% Layout)

The Q2 Pro is a gasket-mounted aluminum board with hot-swappable switches and Bluetooth. The 75% layout keeps function keys and the arrow cluster without stretching your hands to a numpad you never use.

Buy it with Gateron G Pro switches and swap to Boba U4s later if you want silent tactiles. The gasket mount absorbs the typing feel in a way cheap boards can't replicate.

## Logitech MX Mechanical (For the Hybrid Worker)

If you move between a personal machine and a work laptop, the MX Mechanical connects to three devices via Bluetooth or USB dongle and switches with a key combo. The switches are Kailh Choc-style — tactile but quieter than clicky MX Blues. Not a custom-quality board, but it travels and pairs without fuss.

## Ducky One 3 (Tenkeyless)

Ducky builds boring, reliable keyboards. The One 3 TKL uses Cherry switches, a steel plate, and a two-year warranty. No software required. No Bluetooth drama. Plug it in and type.

## Leopold FC750R (Full Size Without the Bloat)

If you genuinely use a numpad — you're in finance, run a help desk, or just enter IP addresses all day — the Leopold FC750R is the answer. Cherry switches, PBT double-shot keycaps that don't shine out after a year, no software.

## What Switch to Choose

- **Brown** — light tactile bump, quiet enough for open offices, good starting point
- **Red** — linear, fast, zero resistance — good if you type lightly and game too
- **Boba U4** — tactile but near-silent, the choice if you're on calls all day
- **Blue / Green** — clicky and loud — great at home, social suicide in a shared office

Buy a [switch tester](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=mechanical%2Bswitch%2Btester%2Bkit&tag=itlad-21) before committing to a board if you've never tried mechanicals. Preferences vary more than people expect.
