A KVM switch gives one keyboard, mouse and monitor to multiple computers. Useful if you run a personal machine and a work laptop side by side, or if you want to access your homelab server without a dedicated monitor.

## TESmart 4-Port HDMI KVM (~$80)

Four computers, one HDMI monitor, keyboard and mouse. Supports 4K@60Hz. Switch between machines with a hotkey or the front button. USB hub ports pass through for peripherals.

Good for: personal desktop + work laptop + homelab server + spare VM host.

## UGREEN 4-Port DisplayPort KVM (~$120)

DisplayPort 1.4 support at 4K@144Hz — if you use a high-refresh monitor, this is the one that won't cap you at 60Hz. Four USB-A ports for peripherals, hotkey switching.

## Level1Techs KVM (Dual Monitor, ~$200)

If you need two monitors — not two ports on one monitor, two actual monitors — the Level1Techs KVM handles 4K@60Hz across both displays simultaneously. This is the gold standard for dual-monitor KVM setups. DisplayPort, solid firmware support.

## Barrier / Input Leap (Software KVM)

If your machines share the same network, Barrier or its fork Input Leap gives you software KVM — move your mouse to the edge of one screen and it appears on the other computer. No hardware needed.

Works best when both machines run the same OS. Mixed Windows/Linux setups work but take a few minutes of config.

## What to Buy Based on Your Setup

| Setup | Pick |
|---|---|
| 2–4 computers, 1 HDMI monitor | TESmart 4-Port HDMI |
| High-refresh monitor (144Hz+) | UGREEN DisplayPort |
| Two monitors across machines | Level1Techs dual |
| Same network, software only | Barrier / Input Leap |

## One Thing to Check Before Buying

KVM switches and USB audio don't always get along. If you use a USB headset, test it through the KVM before assuming it'll work. Most switches pass USB 2.0 devices fine, but some create ground loop hum with audio adapters.
